Cleaning the Nebulizer
Cleaning and getting rid of germs prevent infection. Keeping the nebulizer clean prevents it from clogging up and helps it last longer. It is of extreme importance to not put anything other than medication, sterile water, or vinegar solution in the medicine cup of the nebulizer.
Cleaning Required After Each Use
- Rinse the nebulizer cup with warm water for at least half a minute
- Shake off excess water and let the nebulizer cup air dry
At the End of Each Day
- Rinse nebulizer cup, mask, or mouthpiece in warm soapy water using a mild detergent
- Shake off excess water and place the parts on a clean towel for air drying
- Allow nebulizer parts to completely dry before storing in a plastic zipper storage bag
Once a Week
- Soak all nebulizer parts (except mask, tubing, and compressor) in vinegar/water solution for 1 hour. Do not reuse vinegar solution
- Rinse the parts in warm water
- Shake off excess water and allow to air-dry on a clean towel
Vinegar and Water Solution
- Mix ½ cup of white vinegar with 1-1.5 cups of water.
DO NOT PUT THE NEBULIZER PARTS IN THE DISHWASHER.
Nebulizer Compressor Care
When the compressor is not in use:
To clean the compressor, wipe with a clean, damp cloth
- Protect and cover with a clean, dry cloth
- Turn the compressor off
To clean the compressor, wipe with a clean, damp cloth
Storing the Nebulizer
- Keep the nebulizer clean and sterile to ensure maximum benefit from treatment
- Parts of the nebulizer should not be left unprotected, especially when small children are in the home
- Some of the smaller components can be choking hazards for children
- Be sure to unplug the nebulizer unit when not being used
- Make sure all parts and accessories are clean and completely dry after each use
- When not in use, place accessories and parts in a clean plastic zipper bag
